Fictitious Name Information

(1) Fictitious names recorded in Broward County before January 1, 1991 are historical official records. The Recorder’s Office has not recorded fictitious names since that date.

You may search in person at the Records, Taxes, and Treasury, Broward County Governmental Center, 115 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301. A computerized official-records index is available for documents from 1978 through 1990. Many official records from 1978 forward can also be searched online at officialrecords.broward.org.

(2) For fictitious names recorded on or after January 1, 1991, contact the Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations. Search online at sunbiz.org, call (850) 245-6058, or write P.O. Box 6327, Tallahassee, FL 32314.

This office does not provide assistance for completion, record or process applications or notices of a fictitious name(s). You must obtain a Registration Packet, which accompanies the Application Form, with instructions for completion of the application, by contacting the Florida State Division of Corporations, P.O. Box 6327, Tallahassee, Florida 32314. The completed registration application must be mailed to the Department of State Division of Corporations in Tallahassee. Requests for assistance should be directed to that agency.
