What happens to a registration if the owner cancels their insurance while it is still active?

If someone cancels their insurance while the registration is still valid, FLHSMV will send the customer a letter notifying them that their records show that they have a current registered vehicle without insurance and they will need to surrender their license plate or their driver’s license will be suspended.

Can a resident renew if there is an insurance stop, toll violation, or license suspension on their record?

Once the DMV places a stop on the registration record for any of these violations the registration will not be able to be renewed on the DMV database.

Can residents clear toll violations during the online renewal process?

Currently only CFX (Central Florida Expressway) toll violations can be cleared utilizing Grantstreet’s Renew Express renewal website during the online renewal process.
