Motor Vehicle Titles

Yes. Sales tax is due on the purchase price of the vehicle. Sales tax is not collected if the vehicle is a gift. 

To transfer a Florida title into your name, you will need: 

or

    • A valid passport and proof of legal presence from USCIS. 
  • Proof of Florida insurance for the vehicle. 

Note: Additional documentation may be required if the title has errors. 

To transfer an out-of-state title into your name, you will need: 

  • A properly completed Application for Certificate of Motor Vehicle Title – Form 82040-MV, with section 8 completed by a Florida notary, police officer, licensed Florida dealer, or by a representative of the tax collector’s office. 
  • An acceptable form of identification: 
    • A valid state-issued driver’s license or identification card. 

or

    • A valid passport and proof of legal presence from USCIS. 
  • Proof of Florida insurance for the vehicle.  

Additional documentation may be required if the title has errors. 

If your out-of-state title is held by your lienholder, submit form 83060 to your lienholder and request that the title be sent to our office. Once the title is received, you will be contacted and asked to provide:

  • Proof of Florida insurance for the vehicle.  

Yes. All applicants must be present and sign the title and registration application.
